Two gunmen opened fire at a high school in the central Philippines on Monday, June 22, killing three students and wounding five others, police officials said.
Suspects Taken Into Custody
Police reported that two suspects have been taken into custody. One of the suspects is a student at San Jose National High School in Tacloban city, where the shooting occurred, according to police. Both suspects are male and were armed with pistols.
Investigation Underway
Police investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the shooting at the government-run school, which has more than 1,500 students. Police have also deployed additional forces to beef up security in the area.
“We urge the public to remain calm, refrain from disseminating unverified information and cooperate with authorities by providing any information that may aid the ongoing investigation,” the national police said in a statement.
