The Republic of Burundi has officially published the list of African countries whose citizens can travel to Burundi without a visa in 2026. According to the Burundi government's official website, nationals of five African countries are exempt from visa requirements, provided they meet the country's standard entry conditions.
This policy update, effective in 2026, aims to facilitate regional movement and strengthen ties with neighboring states. Citizens of the eligible countries must present a valid passport issued by their respective nations upon arrival.

The five African countries whose citizens can enter Burundi without a visa are:
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Rwanda
- Uganda
- Tanzania
- Kenya
In a notice directed at nationals of these countries, the Burundi government stated: "Nationals from countries exempted from visa application need to have a valid passport issued by their respective countries."
Entry Requirements and Conditions
While visa-free travel is granted, all travelers must still comply with Burundi's general entry requirements. This includes holding a passport with at least six months of validity and, in some cases, proof of sufficient funds or a return ticket. The government emphasized that the exemption applies only to short stays for tourism or business purposes.
The move aligns with broader efforts by East African Community (EAC) member states to enhance free movement of people. Among the five countries, four are EAC members: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The Democratic Republic of the Congo also joined the EAC in 2022.
