Adeleke Orders New Drones to Boost Security in Osun State
Adeleke Orders New Drones for Osun Security

Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the acquisition of new drones to enhance security surveillance across Osun State. The decision was announced on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, in a statement highlighting the governor's proactive stance against potential terrorist threats.

Background of the Decision

According to Rasheed, the move follows the disappearance of five security drones that were fully paid for during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. Government records indicate that the state had paid for these drones, but none were available when Governor Adeleke assumed office in 2022.

Additionally, a failed contract worth about three hundred million Naira was awarded under the previous government to link the state security communication centre with Armoured Personnel Carriers. The contract was not executed, and the armoured vehicles were abandoned across the state until Governor Adeleke retrieved and refurbished them for deployment.

Security Meetings and New Acquisitions

The governor's directive came after a series of marathon security meetings chaired by him over the last four days. Rasheed stated that the governor has instructed his security team to consider acquiring new drones and other security gadgets to strengthen the state's security apparatus.

Governor Adeleke emphasized a forward-looking approach, saying, "We are not interested in what has happened in the past. Our goal is to acquire new drones and other needed equipment and materials for our formal and informal security networks to combat crimes and banditry in this state."

Commitment to Public Safety

The governor reassured the people of Osun of his administration's commitment to their safety and security. He urged the public to notify security agencies of any suspicious movements or individuals in their areas.

This development underscores the government's determination to leverage modern technology for effective crime prevention and response, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
