The Nigerian Army has announced the rescue of a kidnap victim and the recovery of ransom money during a raid on a kidnap syndicate hideout in Imo State, South-east Nigeria. The operation, conducted by troops of 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation Udo Ka, took place on 17 July in Obinwanne Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area.
Details of the Operation
Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and a lieutenant colonel, disclosed the success in a statement on Sunday. He said a suspected kidnapper was arrested during the raid. The operation led to the recovery of a bag used to transport ransom payments, abandoned in a nearby bush, indicating that the proceeds had been shared among members of the criminal gang.
According to Mr Ayeni, security forces also recovered a black Lexus saloon car believed to have been used in the kidnapping. Mobile phones, identity documents, and cash amounting to N298,200, suspected to be part of the ransom, were seized from the hideout.
Victim Confirms Suspect's Involvement
The rescued victim later confirmed the involvement of the arrested individual in the abduction. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect had facilitated the operation by providing his vehicle to the syndicate's principal actor and had received a portion of the ransom.

Handover and Investigation
The Nigerian Army has handed over all recovered exhibits and the arrested suspect to the State Security Service for further investigation and to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate. Mr Ayeni emphasized, “This successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven missions and highlights the ongoing collaboration among security agencies in combating kidnapping and violent crimes in the South-east region.”
