Bandits launched a deadly attack in Mpape, a community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), late Wednesday, July 9, 2026. The assailants killed a security guard, shot a resident, and abducted three individuals, including a pastor, before escaping.

Attack Details and Timeline

According to a source who spoke to Daily Trust, the attackers arrived at the Yellow House area of Mpape around 11 pm. They targeted a specific home in the neighborhood but failed to break in after a police patrol team, alerted to the incident, arrived on the scene. The bandits exchanged gunfire with security personnel before retreating.

“They didn’t succeed in breaking into the home when a police patrol team that had been alerted about the incident arrived. They withdrew immediately just as they were exchanging gunshots with the security men to beat a retreat,” the source explained.

Abductions and Shooting

As the approximately 10 bandits fled, they encountered a pastor returning home and abducted him from his car. “They succeeded in abducting him from his own car, and also kidnapped two other residents along the road as they were fleeing the area,” the source added. The pastor’s car was later found abandoned along a road in the neighborhood.

During the operation, another resident was shot in the leg. The victim was taken to a hospital by police for medical treatment.

Continued Gunfire and Community Fear

Gunshots were heard in the vicinity until about 2 am, heightening fear among residents. Mpape is located just minutes from the highbrow district of Maitama and near a military barracks, underscoring the audacity of the attack.
