Survivor recounts Enugu Air incident

A content creator known as Chinedu, also referred to as ripl3_piinn, has shared his harrowing experience after surviving an Enugu Air aircraft incident at Benin Airport on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The incident involved an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft operating from Lagos to Benin, carrying 63 passengers and five crew members, according to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). The NSIB confirmed that all passengers and crew were accounted for, with no fatalities reported.

Heavy rain may have prevented fire

Chinedu described the flight as particularly difficult due to heavy rain that obscured visibility through the windows. He stated that the persistent rainfall may have been a critical factor in preventing a fire after the aircraft veered into the bush. “The pilot just kept rotating up, looking for a way. That was how he lost control and entered the bush. That was how our plane crashed. People were breaking heads and legs. The only reason our plane didn’t catch fire was that serious rain was falling,” he recounted.

Shock and changed perception

Sharing his experience on social media, Chinedu expressed shock that the incident did not end in tragedy. He admitted that the event changed his perception, as he previously believed such situations only happened in films or online videos. “I survived a plane crash today. So that is how I would have died, and all these big dreams would have gone. I felt plane crashes only happened in the movies or on social media until I experienced it,” he said.

Details of the incident

The aircraft veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport, with the pilot attempting to find a safe landing spot before the plane moved into a bush area. Chinedu noted that his fear heightened when he could no longer see clearly through the windows due to heavy rain. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident, which left some passengers with injuries but no reported deaths.
