The Edo State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for the suspected kidnappers of a cattle dealer, Oga Peter, who was abducted along the Igarra-Auchi Expressway on July 7, 2026. The command has deployed multiple tactical units, including the anti-kidnapping unit, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and the Drone Unit, to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of the perpetrators.
Abduction Incident Details
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on July 7, 2026, when the command received a distress call reporting gunshots along the Igarra-Auchi Expressway near the Geo-Work Factory. Police officers were immediately deployed to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Oga Peter, a cattle dealer from Ososo Community, was allegedly abducted by armed men dressed in military camouflage.
Security Forces Mobilised
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has since launched a manhunt for the kidnappers. In a statement, the command confirmed that reinforcements have been sent to Igarra, including the anti-kidnapping unit of the state headquarters, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and the Drone Unit. The police are collaborating with the Nigerian Army, members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), and local hunters to rescue the victim and apprehend the suspects.
Appeal for Public Assistance
The CP has assured residents that the police will do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice. He urged members of the public with useful information to report to the nearest police station or call the command's emergency numbers. The police have not disclosed any further details about the kidnappers or the victim's condition at this time.
