Tragedy Strikes Kano Family in Early Morning Fire

A devastating fire outbreak in the Kundila Housing Estate, Tarauni Local Council, Kano State, has plunged the community into mourning after claiming the lives of four family members in the early hours of Wednesday, November 21, 2025.

A Family Lost, One Miraculous Escape

The inferno completely razed a two-bedroom apartment, tragically killing the head of the family, Shodandi, his wife, Rafi’a, and their two young children, Mardiya and 18-month-old Yusira. However, amidst the profound loss, there was a single survivor. Firefighters from the Kano State Fire Service successfully rescued the family's eldest child, 12-year-old Aminu, who escaped alive from the terrifying blaze.

Official Statement and Safety Warning

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, officially confirmed the incident. He stated that his men effectively brought the fire under control. Preliminary investigations into the cause point to a mosquito coil used within the home. The service has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and relatives. Furthermore, Saminu Yusif used the opportunity to issue a crucial public safety warning, urging residents to be extra vigilant with fire hazards as the Harmattan season sets in. This tragic event follows another major fire last week that destroyed over 500 shops at Shuwaki Market in Gari Local Council.
