Flood traps commuters in bus on Enugu road after heavy rain
Flood traps commuters in bus on Enugu road

Commuters were trapped inside a bus that became partially submerged in floodwater on a road in Nsukka, Enugu State, following a heavy downpour on Friday, June 5. Videos from the scene show multiple vehicles stranded in the murky floodwater, including a bus that was reportedly part of Governor Peter Mbah's transportation initiative. The bus was stuck behind a faulty pickup truck that blocked the road.

Passengers await rescue as floodwaters rise

Passengers remained inside the bus, hoping for a solution as locals watched from behind a fence. Some residents criticized the state governor and urged the passengers to wade through the floodwater, believing it would anger the authorities into taking action. A man suspected to be the bus conductor emerged from the vehicle and waded through the water in search of a way to clear the blockage.

Community effort clears the road

Other men soon joined the conductor to push the pickup truck out of the way, allowing the bus to continue its journey. Other vehicles, including a commercial tricycle, were also seen stuck in the flood. The incident highlights the challenges posed by poor drainage and heavy rainfall in the area.
