Court Remands School Principal and Teacher Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Six-Year-Old Pupil

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gombe has ordered the remand of a school principal and a teacher at the Medium Security Custodial Centre over the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old pupil. The defendants, Nasiru Barau Manun (principal) and Eleazer Yila (teacher), face charges under Sections 285 and 167 of the Penal Code Law.

Prosecution Details: Incident Came to Light After Child Confided in Mother

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in July 2026 when Eleazer Yila, a class teacher, sexually assaulted the six-year-old pupil. The child later revealed the traumatic experience to her mother, Mrs. Sarah Emmanuel, which led to the report. The prosecution further stated that the school principal, Nasiru Barau Manun, allegedly shielded the teacher instead of reporting the matter to the appropriate authorities.

Defendants Plead Guilty; Court Adjourns for Judgment

When the charges were read and explained to them, both defendants pleaded guilty. Following their plea, the prosecution urged the court to summarily try the matter in accordance with Section 338 of the Gombe State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2020. The court subsequently remanded the defendants at the Medium Security Custodial Centre and adjourned the case until July 28, 2026, for judgment.
