Ikechukwu Onunaku Reacts to Lagos Flooding

Nigerian actor and rapper Ikechukwu Onunaku has shared his perspective on the recent flooding across parts of Lagos, stating that the situation is not a new phenomenon. In a video posted online, he expressed surprise at the shock expressed by many residents, arguing that flooding in Lagos has been a long-standing issue.

Victoria Island Flooding History

According to Onunaku, areas like Victoria Island have experienced flooding for decades, dating back to when he attended primary school. He recalled that parts of what are now developed areas were once covered by water before they were reclaimed through sand filling. This history, he said, makes the current flooding predictable rather than surprising.

Blame on Poor Regulation and Planning

Onunaku attributed the persistent flooding to poor regulation and urban planning. He warned that without lasting solutions, the situation could worsen. His remarks highlight the ongoing challenges Lagos faces with drainage and infrastructure, particularly in low-lying and reclaimed areas.
