Kano Emirs Suspend Sallah Durbars Over Security

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Dr Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Aminu Ado Bayero, both claimants to the Kano emirate stool, have announced the suspension of all Eid-el-Kabir durbar activities in the state. This decision comes in response to directives from the Kano State Police Command, which instructed both emirs to cancel their planned processions, including Hawan Daushe and Hawan Nassarawa.

In separate briefings, representatives of the two emirs confirmed the suspension, citing security concerns and the need to comply with law enforcement directives. Speaking on behalf of Sanusi, Matawallen Kano, Aliyu Ibrahim, stated that the decision was made to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to preserve the peaceful atmosphere in the state during the Eid celebrations.

Similarly, Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, announced the suspension on behalf of Bayero. He emphasized that the decision was taken in compliance with police directives issued to ensure peace and stability in Kano. Dan’agundi reiterated that they are law-abiding citizens and would fully comply with the directives of security agencies in the interest of maintaining peace in the state.

The two emirs had earlier announced plans to hold parallel durbars, which raised security concerns among law enforcement agencies. The police directive aimed to avert any potential clashes or disturbances during the festive period. The suspension applies to all durbar activities, including the traditional Hawan Daushe and Hawan Nassarawa processions.

Residents of Kano have welcomed the decision, expressing relief that the Eid celebrations will proceed without incident. Community leaders have also commended the emirs for prioritizing peace and stability over personal ambitions. The police command has assured the public that adequate security measures are in place to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.
