A commercial bus driver lost his life in a multiple-vehicle collision that took place at Cele inward, Oshodi, Lagos on Wednesday, June 10. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident.
The accident involved a commercial minibus known as 'Korokpe' and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with registration number EPE 554 YC. According to LASTMA, preliminary investigations by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the minibus sustained severe injuries and died instantly due to the impact of the crash.
LASTMA operatives, who were on routine traffic monitoring and surveillance duties within the corridor, quickly mobilized to the scene. They coordinated emergency response efforts, secured the accident site, managed traffic flow, and prevented further obstruction along the heavily trafficked route.
Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA's Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, stated in a press release that the remains of the deceased driver were recovered and released to his family residing in the locality. He added that LASTMA personnel promptly evacuated the wreckage and all vehicles involved in the accident from the roadway. The vehicles were then handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the crash, with the aim of determining liability and facilitating any necessary legal proceedings.
Despite the significant disruption caused by the incident, the prompt intervention of LASTMA officers and the deployment of effective traffic management strategies ensured the rapid restoration of free vehicular movement along the affected corridor.
The General Manager of LASTMA expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists, especially commercial transport operators, to exercise heightened caution, maintain strict compliance with traffic regulations, and cultivate a culture of responsible driving at all times.
