The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has commenced enforcement of its 2026 parking permit regulations across all operational zones, ending a prolonged grace period. Defaulters now face heavy fines and immediate suspension of operations, according to a statement by LASPA General Manager Adebisi Adelabu.
End of Grace Period Triggers Enforcement
Adelabu announced the enforcement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, stating that the authority had grown concerned that many registered customers had still not obtained their 2026 permits despite demand notices, repeated reminders, and direct communications. The enforcement marks the end of the extended window granted for operators to regularise their activities.
“The commencement of the enforcement marks the end of the prolonged grace period granted to customers to regularise their activities and obtain their 2026 parking permits,” Adelabu said.
Why LASPA Is Acting Now
The 2026 demand notices, which outline applicable fees, requirements, and procedures, were distributed to all registered customers. The grace period extension was intended to give operators sufficient time to meet obligations, but that window has now closed.
Adelabu said the exercise aims to strengthen compliance with approved parking regulations, improve accountability, and raise parking management standards across Lagos. “Valid parking permits and accurate customer records are essential to enable LASPA to effectively plan, monitor, regulate, and manage parking infrastructure and services across the state,” she said.
What Operators Should Do
Despite the enforcement, LASPA personnel remain available to support customers seeking compliance, including assistance with online payment and registration portals. Adelabu urged those yet to act to do so without delay to avoid penalties.
She also called on the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and report any unauthorised parking activities to the authority.
Adelabu emphasised that the enforcement is not punitive but a necessary step to restore order and accountability within Lagos's parking system, supporting the authority's broader goal of building efficient and sustainable parking infrastructure for residents, businesses, and visitors.
