A devastating motor accident along the Kano–Gombe highway has claimed the lives of a mother, her 9-month-old baby, and eight other passengers. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, leaving seven other passengers with varying degrees of injuries.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Nabila Adamu Umaru and her infant son, Zahir. Nabila was married to Bello Bajoga and was blessed with two children. She was pursuing her Master’s degree at Bayero University Kano at the time of her death.
Funeral and Mourning
Funeral prayers for the victims were held at the Bolari Central Mosque in Gombe. A viral photo showing Bello Bajoga cradling the body of his child during the funeral has circulated widely, drawing an outpouring of grief from the public.
The tragic incident has highlighted the dangers of the Kano–Gombe highway, a route known for frequent accidents. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash as the community mourns the loss of ten lives.
