A Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) officer has alleged that police officers from the Umutu Division in Delta State declared that NFSS personnel cannot wear red berets because the color is associated with confraternities.
Allegations of Beret Ban
The NFSS officer claimed that during an interaction, police officers stated that the red berets worn by the NFSS are identical to those used by secret confraternity groups, making it unacceptable for the forest security officers to wear them. The officer expressed frustration over the police's stance, emphasizing that the NFSS has been collaborating with law enforcement agencies to maintain security.
Call for Reciprocity
The NFSS officer advised police officers to reciprocate the efforts of the NFSS in collaborating with all arms of law enforcement. The officer stressed the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between the two security outfits.
The incident has sparked discussions about inter-agency relations and the need for clear guidelines on uniforms and insignia among security agencies in Nigeria.
