The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 5,500 operatives for the Ekiti Governorship election scheduled for Saturday. The Deputy Commandant-General of the Corps in charge of operations, Philip Ayuba, announced the deployment on Friday, directing all officers to remain strictly apolitical throughout the electoral process.
Deployment Across All Local Government Areas
Mr Ayuba stated that the deployment covers all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State. He emphasized the need for professionalism, discipline, and neutrality among the operatives. According to him, the credibility of the election hinges on the impartial conduct of security personnel, urging officers to carry out their duties without fear or favor.
Police Deployment Details
The Nigeria Police Force has also made its deployment for the election, but the exact number of officers deployed was not disclosed. The Police Commissioner in charge of the election, Abayomi Shogunle, declined to provide figures, citing concerns that revealing the number could deter voters from participating due to fears of over-militarization. He added that the police have identified and addressed flashpoints in the security operational plan for the election.

The NSCDC's directive underscores the critical role of security agencies in ensuring a free and fair election. Mr Ayuba warned that any officer found compromising the electoral process would face disciplinary action. The deployment aims to provide a secure environment for voters, election officials, and materials across the state.
