NYSC Doctor Slumps, Dies in Zamfara 7 Days to Passing Out

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Dr. Ibrahim Abdulmumin Adeiza, has died in Zamfara State just seven days before the completion of his mandatory one-year service. The tragic incident occurred on May 13, 2026, at Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, where he was serving.

Circumstances of Death

According to a friend, Engr. Habibu Nura, Adeiza slumped around 1:00 pm after stepping out with a colleague to purchase a plastic bottle. He passed away approximately one hour later. Nura noted that the doctor showed no signs of illness and had been laughing and chatting with him just an hour before his sudden death.

Government Condolences

The Zamfara State Ministry of Health confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday. The Information and Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Isah, expressed the government's condolences to the NYSC and the family of the deceased.

“Zamfara State Government has condoled with the National Youth Service Corps and the family of Dr. Ibrahim Abdulmumin Adeiza, a corps member serving at Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital, who passed away while carrying out his national service duties,” the statement read.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing it as a great blow to the health sector and the state. She praised the late corps member as dedicated, hardworking, and committed to saving humanity.

Dr. Nafisa prayed for forgiveness of his shortcomings and his admission into Aljannatul Firdaus, while also seeking strength and comfort for his family, colleagues, friends, and the NYSC community to bear the painful loss.
