Detectives from the Ijebu Imushin Division of the Ogun State Police Command successfully thwarted a truck hijacking operation, recovering a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following a distress call from a driver who was attacked while transporting motor spare parts.
Incident Details
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Council of Ogun State, where the truck was forcefully taken from him. The driver sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the attack.
Police Response
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that upon receiving the report, detectives, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Their prompt intervention forced the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure. Babaseyi noted that the quick response thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.
“The driver, who sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly given first aid,” Babaseyi said. “A thorough search of the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape, which was used by the suspects during the operation. Operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution.”
