The Oyo State Fire Service has successfully rescued a 75-year-old man who fell into a well in the Saki area of the state. The incident occurred on Monday evening, and the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was brought out alive by the agency's operatives. He was subsequently handed over to officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Saki Divisional Headquarters.
Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued in Ibadan. He explained that the elderly man became trapped in the well while trying to retrieve a fetcher used for drawing water. 'Upon arrival, it was discovered that a man of about 75 years was trapped inside a well after attempting to recover a fetcher from the water,' Akinwande said. 'The victim was rescued alive and handed over to a team of policemen from the Saki Divisional Headquarters led by ASP Yusuf Olarinoye.'
Fire Outbreak at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment
In a separate incident, properties worth millions of naira were reportedly destroyed in a fire outbreak that engulfed some residential flats at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo Barracks, Ojoo, Ibadan. The fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Akinwande stated that fire service personnel promptly responded to the distress call and launched a coordinated operation to prevent the inferno from spreading to adjoining buildings. He added that the agency successfully contained the fire, and investigations into the cause of the outbreak are ongoing.
