The Oyo State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all school excursions, field trips, inter-school sports competitions, and other outdoor activities that require students to leave school premises. This decision, effective immediately, applies to both public and private schools across the state.
Reason for Suspension
The directive was issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff following recent security incidents. The government cited heightened fear among residents, particularly after attacks reported in parts of Ogbomoso and surrounding communities.
Compliance and Vigilance
School administrators have been directed to strictly comply with the order and ensure all academic and extracurricular activities are confined within school premises until further notice. The circular also instructed schools to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements around school environments to relevant security agencies.
Government Commitment
Officials stressed that the safety of learners remains the government’s top priority. The suspension will be reviewed once the security situation improves. This development has sparked concern among parents and stakeholders, particularly over the impact on academic outings and extracurricular learning activities.
