The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has donated 250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. The donation is intended to facilitate the smooth take-off of the unit, which was created to combat rising insecurity in the region.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed, received the donation from the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, along with members drawn from the National, Zonal, and State chapters. The Commissioner commended the PCRC for its support and assured that the petrol would be used judiciously.
In a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the PCRC National Chairman expressed the committee's appreciation for the establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit, noting that it aligns with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police. He emphasized that the initiative would enhance the operational effectiveness of the Command, improve rapid response to emergencies, and strengthen public confidence in policing within the FCT.
The statement further highlighted the PCRC's commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the FCT Police Command, in achieving a safer and more secure society. In response, the Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude for the PCRC's consistent partnership and assured that the Violent Crime Response Unit would operate in strict compliance with the Inspector General of Police's directives, justifying the public's trust.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its resolve to fight crime and urged members of the public to support ongoing security efforts by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency numbers.
