A pedestrian has tragically lost his life after being struck by a Toyota Coaster bus along the Imowo-Ibadan Road, inward Ijebu-Ode, in Ogun State. The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Eyewitness Accounts
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the pedestrian failed to check for oncoming vehicles before attempting to cross the road, leading to the fatal collision.
Official Confirmation
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that the crash happened amid ongoing road rehabilitation work, which had diverted traffic to a single lane outward Ijebu-Ode.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion. TRACE officials and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to manage traffic and conduct rescue operations at the scene.
Investigation and Aftermath
Akinbiyi noted that the pedestrian's failure to observe both sides of the road before crossing was a major contributing factor. No other injuries were reported aside from the death of the male pedestrian.
The body of the deceased was evacuated using an ambulance from the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System and transported to the General Hospital mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.
The vehicle involved in the accident has been removed from the road and taken to the Police Area Command in Igbeba for further investigation. Normal traffic flow has since been restored.
Akinbiyi urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially around construction zones and areas with traffic diversions, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
