Police foil cattle rustling, recover animals in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has announced the foiling of an attempt by suspected bandits to rustle cattle and sheep in Bakori Local Government Area. The operation took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at approximately 11:00 pm in Gidan Dan Maye village.

Joint Security Operation

According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, a joint security team swiftly responded to intelligence about the rustling. The team, comprising police operatives and members of the Vigilante Group, traced the bandits to a location near Gidan Baushe village, where a fierce gun duel ensued.

Recovery of Animals

Due to the superior firepower and tactical approach of the security forces, the bandits abandoned all rustled animals—12 cows and an unspecified number of sheep—and fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds. All recovered animals were returned to their rightful owners.

Police Commissioner's Response

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the bravery of the team and reiterated the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to aid in tracking down the fleeing suspects and dismantling their network.
