A woman has been confirmed dead, and four other persons sustained injuries, following a collision involving two Toyota Sienna vehicles on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 5.
Details of the Incident
In a statement released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the head of public affairs, Olawale Afolabi, confirmed the incident. He stated that both vehicles were commercial and fully loaded at the time of the crash.
Afolabi said the injured victims were rescued and taken to a nearby trauma centre for medical attention.
Preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving by one of the Toyota Sienna vehicles triggered the crash, leading to a head-on collision, he said.
Rescue Operations
He noted that LASEMA’s Tiger Squad from the C3 Command was activated at about 7:26 am and arrived at the scene around 8:00 am to coordinate rescue and recovery operations.
Afolabi added that officials of the agency worked with police officers and personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to manage traffic and clear the wreckage.
