Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serve in a safe and conducive environment across the state. Governor Dauda Lawal made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation course held at the UBE Training Centre temporary orientation camp, bypass in Gusau, the state capital.
Governor's Assurance on Safety and Welfare
The governor, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura, stated that the present administration places the welfare and security of citizens, including corps members, among the top priorities of its Rescue Agenda. He described the three-week orientation course as the foundation of the national service year, designed to equip corps members with the values, knowledge, and skills required to excel in their places of primary assignment and live harmoniously within their host communities.
Lectures and Guidance for Corps Members
The governor noted that lectures on national unity, entrepreneurship, security awareness, and community development are vital tools that would guide the corps members throughout their service year. “I encourage you to build on the lessons learned here and continue to uphold the ideals of patriotism, discipline, and selfless service. Whether you are posted to schools, healthcare facilities, government establishments, farms, or private organisations, strive to contribute positively and leave lasting impacts on the lives of the people you serve,” he said.
Support from Local Leaders
Governor Lawal further disclosed that he had directed all local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and community leaders across the state to warmly receive and support corps members posted to their communities. He assured the corps members that those who distinguish themselves through dedication, community development projects, discipline, and exemplary service would be recognized and rewarded by the Zamfara State Government at the end of the service year.
Appreciation for Camp Officials
The governor also commended the NYSC State Coordinator, camp officials, military and paramilitary personnel, resource persons, and the entire camp management team for their commitment and sacrifices toward the successful conduct of the orientation exercise. In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, expressed appreciation to Governor Dauda Lawal for the prompt interventions carried out at the camp, particularly the repair of hostel facilities and the installation of solar lights within the orientation camp.
Appeal for Completion of Projects
The coordinator also appealed to the state government to expedite the completion of ongoing projects at the camp, especially as another orientation course is approaching, noting that timely completion of the projects would improve operational efficiency.
