A tragic accident in the Majidun area of Lagos State has claimed one life and left six others with severe, life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday, November 17, 2025.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with the registration number EPE 494 XM and a stationary tipper truck. According to preliminary findings from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the bus, which was chartered to transport passengers to a programme in Ogijo, experienced a sudden brake failure. The driver, who was reportedly speeding at the time, consequently lost control of the vehicle.
The bus then rammed into the tipper truck, which was parked by the roadside near the MRS Filling Station, opposite Ogolonto, for a diesel purchase.
Emergency Response and Arrests
An adult female passenger was confirmed dead at the scene. The six injured victims, comprising five women and one man, were swiftly transported to Benic Special Hospital for urgent medical attention. The body of the deceased was evacuated to the General Hospital in Ikorodu for formal documentation.
In the aftermath, the tipper truck driver attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended by LASTMA operatives. The commercial bus driver was also arrested. Both men have been handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division for a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Official Condolences and Safety Warning
The Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, officially confirmed the details of the incident. LASTMA officers worked to clear the wreckage from the road, restoring traffic flow towards Ikorodu Garage.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. He prayed for strength for the family and a quick recovery for the injured.
Bakare-Oki used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to motorists, urging caution, vigilance, and discipline. He emphasized that overspeeding drastically reduces a driver's ability to react to sudden hazards, such as mechanical faults, and significantly increases the risk of catastrophic accidents. He reaffirmed LASTMA's commitment to protecting lives and promoting a safer driving culture across Lagos State.
