A road crash on the Bida-Kutigi-Mokwa road in Niger State has reportedly killed at least nine people. The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday between the Lanle and Shaba Woro communities, according to eyewitness accounts.
Collision Details and Vehicles Involved
The crash involved a Mazda vehicle travelling from Minna towards Mokwa and a Sienna vehicle reportedly travelling from Lagos to Minna. The two vehicles collided after the Mazda entered a blind corner, eyewitnesses said.
An eyewitness told reporters that nine bodies were seen at the accident scene, while several other victims sustained varying injuries. Responders took the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Resident Calls for Caution on Dangerous Road Sections
A resident of the area, Sachi Isah, urged motorists plying the route to exercise caution, particularly when approaching bends and other dangerous sections of the road. Mr Isah also advised drivers embarking on long journeys to rest adequately after travelling several kilometres before continuing their trips.
He said such measures would help reduce avoidable crashes and loss of lives on the highway.
Official Response Pending
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police, the Federal Road Safety Corps or other relevant authorities confirming the number of casualties or the circumstances surrounding the crash. The lack of official confirmation leaves the death toll unverified, and further details are expected once authorities release their findings.
