A fatal road crash on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway on Monday, July 14, 2026, claimed the lives of nine people after a Delta Line commercial bus and a Sino Truck collided. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Command confirmed the incident, stating that all nine occupants—three males and six females—died in the collision.
Details of the Collision
The crash occurred at approximately 4:55 pm on the expressway, a major route connecting Ogun and Ondo states. According to the FRSC Ogun Command spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, the incident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck with registration number AAB162XD.
Odunsi confirmed the fatalities in a statement released to journalists on Monday night. "Sadly, all nine persons were killed in the incident," he said. The victims included three males and six females, all of whom were aboard the vehicles at the time of the crash.
Preliminary Cause Identified
Rainfall at the time of the crash left the road surface wet, contributing to the incident. The FRSC spokesperson noted that preliminary investigation pointed to speed violation (SPV) as the probable cause. "The crash occurred while it was raining, with the road pavement wet. The road itself was paved. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation (SPV) as the probable cause of the crash," Odunsi said.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode. Officers from the Ilese Police Station towed both vehicles to the station as part of the ongoing investigation.
Recent Fatalities on Nigerian Roads
This incident follows another deadly crash reported earlier by Legit.ng, in which twenty people lost their lives on Friday evening after a truck with faulty brakes ploughed into several vehicles on Hawan Kibo Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety across Nigeria, with authorities urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions.
