A Nigerian eyewitness has come forward with crucial evidence following the tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The man, who drove the same route just 20 minutes before the crash, has released a video to counter widespread claims that poor road conditions were to blame for the fatal incident.
Eyewitness Video Contradicts Propaganda
The witness, identified as Orowale Kolapo (also known as Oni Foto on social media), shared his experience online. He stated he traversed the expressway from Berger to Iwo Road shortly before the accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025.
In a strong rebuttal, Kolapo labeled narratives suggesting a bad road caused the crash as "misconception and propaganda." He emphasized that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is, in his view, "one of the smoothest roads in Nigeria as a whole," adding that there are no significant bumps on that stretch.
Possible Cause and Tragic Outcome
While describing the event as deeply unfortunate, Kolapo proposed that the accident likely resulted from a driver's miscalculation. His account aligns with preliminary reports from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which indicated illegal overtaking as a probable cause.
The crash claimed the lives of two cherished members of Anthony Joshua's inner circle: Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Latif 'Latz' Ayodele, a close friend. Joshua himself sustained injuries and was promptly taken to a hospital in Lagos for treatment.
Kolapo concluded his statement with a prayer, saying, "May the souls of the dead rest well."
Public Reaction and Heartbreaking Tributes
The eyewitness's post generated significant discussion online, with many Nigerians corroborating his assessment of the road's condition.
Oluwatobiloba Olabisi Babalola shared a harrowing account, revealing she and her husband were fixing a flat tyre nearby when the accident happened "like a flash." Others, like Adegbite Ayoola and Idowu Olayinka, who use the road frequently, affirmed its good condition and pointed to driver error.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the sports and entertainment world. Tributes have poured in for the deceased, particularly for Sina Ghami, whose final Instagram post has become a site for mourning. Ghami, a qualified sports rehabilitator and co-founder of Evolve Gym in London, was a respected figure in the fitness community.
The incident has sparked a renewed conversation about road safety, driver responsibility, and the perils of high-speed travel on Nigerian highways, even those considered to be in good condition.
