The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft aimed at strengthening efforts to tackle insecurity across the state. The aircraft landed at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and are expected to significantly enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations in Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
Commissioner Confirms Milestone in Security Drive
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the arrival marks another milestone in the state's drive to strengthen security through improved intelligence and aerial monitoring. He recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had announced on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force's hangar in Lagos before deployment. According to Oyelade, the state had also assured residents that the aircraft would arrive before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
Aircraft to Support Security Agencies
The surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other security formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response efforts across the state. Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft, underscoring the administration's commitment to leveraging technology for public safety.
Part of Broader Anti-Crime Strategy
The Oyo State Government first announced the purchase of the two surveillance aircraft in July 2025 as part of plans to strengthen the capacity of security agencies in combating kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities. The new aircraft form part of the administration's broader strategy to improve security through modern surveillance technology, marking a significant investment in the state's internal security infrastructure.
