Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State, leaving at least eight soldiers feared dead and several others injured. The assault targeted a position of the 162 Battalion in the early hours of Friday.
Attack Details
Military sources said the attackers struck around 4 a.m. during heavy rainfall, taking advantage of the weather to storm the base in large numbers and overrun parts of the facility. Some accounts also claimed the soldiers killed were subjected to further brutal treatment, though this remains unverified.
Response and Casualties
Reinforcement troops have reportedly been deployed to the area as operations continue to assess casualties. There has been no official statement from the Nigerian military as of press time. The attack highlights the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram in the region, despite years of counterinsurgency efforts.
