The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies on the Wawa-Lumma road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The victims were suspected to have been killed by terrorists while travelling on the road.
Police and Military Respond to Incident
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Minna that a team of police and military personnel was dispatched to evacuate the bodies after receiving the information on Tuesday.
He said clearance operations had been intensified to secure the area from any security threat. “Police and military tactical teams were mobilised to the scene; the bodies recovered, while clearance operation was intensified to secure the area,” he said.
Security Operations Intensified
The recovery of the bodies highlights ongoing security challenges in the region. The police and military have increased their presence along the Wawa-Lumma road to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of travellers.
The Niger State Police Command has not released the identities of the victims, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
