The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State has officially confirmed a brazen terrorist attack on one of its forward operating bases. The assault targeted personnel stationed in the Wawa area of Borgu Local Council.
Midnight Assault Repelled by Alert Personnel
Commandant of the NSCDC in Niger State, Mr. Suberu Siyaka-Aniviye, provided details of the incident during a press briefing in Minna on December 24, 2025. He stated that a large group of attackers stormed the outpost just a few minutes after midnight.
No life was lost in the encounter, a fact the Commandant attributed to the vigilance and swift reaction of the corps members on duty. The attackers, despite their numbers, were reportedly unable to operate freely due to this immediate resistance.
Intense Firefight and Tactical Manoeuvres
Siyaka-Aniviye explained that the situation escalated quickly. NSCDC operatives attempted to repel the invaders, but they were challenged by the superior numerical strength of the terrorists and the cover of darkness.
"Our men manoeuvred and took cover, but the attackers fired sporadically because they had several weapons," the Commandant recounted. He detailed that the assailants used torchlights to identify targets before opening fire, forcing the security personnel into a tactical defensive position.
Damage and Aftermath of the Attack
The attack left significant material damage. The NSCDC's operational vehicle was severely hit:
- The vehicle was riddled with bullets.
- The windscreen was completely damaged.
- All four tyres were punctured.
In addition to the damage, the terrorists looted some personal belongings from the outpost. Following the attack, the tyres were replaced, and the vehicle was successfully driven back to the NSCDC state headquarters in Minna for further assessment and repairs.
This incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the region, even as the NSCDC commends its personnel for their bravery in preventing any loss of life.
