The Oyo State Police Command has announced the launch of an intensive manhunt and rescue operation following a coordinated terrorist attack on schools and surrounding communities in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.
Details of the Attack
Preliminary investigations reveal that the assailants, operating on motorcycles, simultaneously attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele. They abducted several pupils, students, and staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs. Alamu Folawe. As of the time of this report, no pupil or student has been confirmed killed. However, one Assistant Headmaster, identified as Mr. Adesiyan, was killed during the attack. Additionally, a motorcycle rider who resisted attempts by the attackers to forcefully take his motorcycle was shot dead.
Police Response
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, immediately led operatives and other service commanders to the scene for assessment and operational coordination. He also directed a comprehensive manhunt for the perpetrators.
