Troops of the 32 Brigade, working alongside local vigilantes, have apprehended two suspected terrorist informants during an offensive operation in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. Military sources reported that the operation commenced at approximately 9:30 a.m. on May 25, 2026, targeting forested areas around Itagbolu, Iju, Igbogun Iju, and Iju Alagbun communities.
Ongoing Efforts to Dismantle Criminal Networks
The operation is part of broader efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security within the region. The sources disclosed that two individuals suspected of being informants for terrorist groups were captured during the raid. The suspects have been handed over to the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Arrest in Borno State
In a separate incident, troops from the 242 Reconnaissance Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State. The suspect, identified as Alhaji Gambo, aged 33, was taken into custody at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, during routine security checks at the Charlie 4 entry point into Monguno town.
According to sources, the suspect was intercepted while attempting to enter the town, following intelligence-driven surveillance operations. Items recovered from him included two packs of brake shoes, two packs of clutch accessories, a Demba Rover, a wristwatch, a torchlight, and personal clothing, among other items.
Ongoing Investigations
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in the custody of Sector 3 Military Intelligence Battalion for further investigation and necessary action. Security officials noted that preliminary interrogation is ongoing to determine possible links between the suspect and terrorist logistics or support networks operating within the region. They added that the general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops' morale and operational efficiency remain satisfactory.
