TYF Urges Federal Government to Strengthen Security Amid Rising Threats
TYF Calls for Stronger Security Strategies as Insecurity Grows

TYF Demands Urgent Security Overhaul as Insecurity Spreads Nationwide

The Think Yoruba First (TYF) organization has issued a strong appeal to the Federal Government, calling for immediate reassessment and reinforcement of national security strategies. This urgent demand comes amid escalating insecurity across Nigeria, with the group expressing deep concern about the growing wave of terrorist activities threatening lives and property throughout the country.

Growing Security Crisis Demands Immediate Action

In a statement released on Friday by General Secretary Dr. Bukola Adeniji, TYF highlighted the deteriorating security situation as requiring decisive and coordinated government intervention. The organization specifically pointed to recent security incidents involving staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) and reported breaches within the Oyo State Forest Reserve as alarming indicators of an evolving security crisis.

"These attacks represent direct challenges to the authority and sovereignty of the Nigerian state," the organization declared, warning that without urgent measures, the country faces potential urban infiltration by terrorist elements.

Humanitarian Toll and Eroding Public Confidence

TYF further decried the increasing number of killings, abductions, and ransom demands nationwide, noting that countless families have suffered devastating financial and emotional consequences. The organization observed that public confidence in existing security responses continues to decline significantly as these incidents multiply.

"For years, innocent Nigerians particularly in the North and North Central have suffered at the hands of jihadist groups operating under the guise of religious identity," the statement noted. "Today, these threats have evolved beyond rural attacks and highway ambushes into coordinated assaults on government institutions, with clear signs of expansion into Southern Nigeria."

Specific Security Recommendations

The organization outlined several critical measures needed to address the security crisis:

  • Enhanced intelligence gathering capabilities
  • Improved inter-agency collaboration between security forces
  • Stronger law enforcement operations against terrorist enclaves
  • Prioritized protection of vulnerable communities
  • Securing of critical national infrastructure

Political Support Conditional on Security Progress

While reaffirming support for President Tinubu's administration and future electoral success, TYF emphasized that such support must be anchored on measurable progress in tackling insecurity. The organization maintained that safeguarding citizens and securing strategic national infrastructure must remain the government's top priority.

"Nigeria stands at a critical juncture," the statement concluded. "Silence and inaction are no longer acceptable. The safety, dignity, and future of our people must take precedence over all other considerations."

The group's warning comes as the South West region, once relatively insulated from widespread attacks, now experiences increasing and persistent security challenges, signaling a dangerous expansion of the security crisis beyond traditional conflict zones.
