NDDC Staff Trained in AI, Drone Tech for Comms

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has started a comprehensive training program for its employees in artificial intelligence, drone operations, and digital content creation. This initiative aims to strengthen the commission's corporate communications and new media output.

Training Focus Areas

The training targets personnel from the Corporate Affairs and Protocol Departments. It covers drone piloting, video editing, media content creation, and the use of AI tools.

Oluwatimilehin Bada, Assistant Director in the Office of the Executive Director, Corporate Services, spoke on behalf of Executive Director Ifedayo Abegunde. He stated that the initiative reflects the commission's commitment to innovation and improved public engagement. Bada commended Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Samuel Ogbuku for prioritizing the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance the commission's storytelling capabilities.

Theme and Objectives

The training is themed “Promoting Innovative Media: Integrating AI Knowledge, Drone Piloting and Content Creation.” It is designed to equip corporate affairs personnel with modern skills needed to effectively showcase the commission's activities.

“We recognize that a technologically empowered media is a vital partner in achieving sustainable development. We are enhancing professional competence while promoting greater transparency, accountability, and public engagement,” Bada said. “We must appreciate the ingenuity and commitment of the MD/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku. By harnessing innovative technologies, we will be able to tell our story better and communicate more effectively.”

Importance of AI

Emmanuel Udonte, Deputy Director of the Corporate Affairs Department, highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence in global communication. He noted that the commission is taking proactive steps to stay ahead.

“The world is going digital, and artificial intelligence cannot be ignored. At NDDC, we believe it is here to stay and will shape the future. This training is to ensure our staff are well informed and prepared,” Udonte said. He added that this exercise marks the first phase of a broader capacity-building plan, with a significant number of staff already participating.

Brand Management

Selina Dan-Albert, Head of the New Media Unit and Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, said the training would enhance staff ability to manage information in a fast-paced digital environment. She described corporate affairs personnel as custodians of the commission's brand, stressing the need for efficiency in gathering and disseminating information.

“We are the brand bearers of NDDC, so we must gather and disseminate information as quickly and effectively as possible. That is why this training is essential,” she said.
