The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Fireflies AI and Goose FL to expand Nigeria's digital footprint, enhance AI skills, and create jobs. The agreements were announced on August 12, 2026, according to a statement by NITDA's Director General, Kashifu Inuwa.
Partnerships to Boost Digital Economy
The MoUs aim to foster collaboration in artificial intelligence, digital skills development, and technology innovation. NITDA's DG, Kashifu Inuwa, emphasized that the partnerships would help Nigeria leverage emerging technologies to drive economic growth and position the country as a digital hub in Africa.
Fireflies AI, a leading AI-powered meeting assistant, will work with NITDA to enhance digital literacy and AI adoption among Nigerian youths and professionals. Goose FL, a decentralized machine learning platform, will support NITDA's efforts to build local AI capacity and promote ethical AI practices.
Expected Impact on Digital Skills and Job Creation
The partnerships are expected to create thousands of jobs in the tech sector, particularly in AI development, data science, and software engineering. NITDA plans to train over 100,000 Nigerians in AI-related skills over the next three years, leveraging the expertise of both companies.
According to the DG, the MoUs align with the federal government's digital economy agenda and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS). The collaborations will also facilitate knowledge transfer and access to global markets for Nigerian tech startups.
Strategic Importance for Nigeria's Digital Footprint
Inuwa noted that these partnerships are crucial for Nigeria to compete globally in the digital space. He said, "These MoUs are a significant step towards building a robust digital ecosystem that will drive innovation, create wealth, and improve the quality of life for Nigerians."
The agreements also include provisions for research and development, joint projects, and capacity building in areas such as cybersecurity, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). NITDA will oversee the implementation and monitor progress to ensure the objectives are met.
Both Fireflies AI and Goose FL expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting their commitment to supporting Nigeria's digital transformation journey. The MoUs are expected to be operational immediately, with initial projects slated to begin within the next quarter.
