Federal Government Unveils Happy Woman App to Empower 25 Million Nigerian Women

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched a groundbreaking digital initiative aimed at transforming the economic landscape for women across the nation. This innovative platform, known as the Happy Woman App, is designed to significantly deepen women's economic inclusion and expand their access to crucial resources nationwide.

A Comprehensive Digital Solution for Women's Advancement

According to an official statement released by the Presidency, the Happy Woman App serves as a secure digital interface that will connect Nigerian women to a wide array of opportunities and support systems. The application provides comprehensive access to financial services, skills development programmes, market opportunities, essential services, and various government-backed interventions.

The platform represents a strategic move to empower women by giving them the tools to understand finance, develop valuable skills, access markets, and leverage government support effectively. This initiative aligns with global trends in digital empowerment and economic inclusion, positioning Nigerian women at the forefront of technological advancement.

Presidential Endorsement and National Expansion

The official unveiling of this transformative platform followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's announcement regarding the nationwide expansion of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP). This ambitious programme is expected to benefit an impressive 25 million women across all regions of Nigeria, building upon a successful pilot phase that reached over one million women in six states.

During the launch event held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the central role women play in national development. "A nation that relegates its women is a nation bound for implosion. We have long understood this truth," the President stated unequivocally.

President Tinubu further elaborated that "this administration has not only placed women at the forefront of decision-making but has also entrusted them with leadership in causes that redeem our national promise." He highlighted women's vital contributions to strengthening families, sustaining communities, and boosting national productivity.

Technological Innovation as a Catalyst for Inclusion

The President described the target of reaching 25 million women as ambitious yet attainable, calling upon the World Bank to expand its financial backing, technical support, and innovation partnerships to facilitate the programme's nationwide rollout. He emphasized technology's crucial role in promoting inclusion, noting that digital access has become essential for efficient service delivery and enhancing national competitiveness.

As part of the administration's broader social agenda, President Tinubu has designated 2026 as the Year of Social Development and Families in Nigeria. This declaration follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed during the President's official visit to Turkey in January, aimed at strengthening family cohesion and improving social welfare systems throughout the country.

Complementary Financial Initiatives for Women Entrepreneurs

This digital empowerment initiative complements other financial programmes designed to support women entrepreneurs across Nigeria. The Bank of Industry (BOI), in partnership with the National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC), has recently launched the GLOW (Guaranteed Loans for Women) programme. This initiative will unlock N10 billion in guaranteed loans specifically for women entrepreneurs, providing a 25% credit-guarantee cover on BOI's loan portfolio to expand women's access to affordable financing and strengthen their participation in key economic sectors.

The Happy Woman App represents a significant step forward in Nigeria's commitment to gender equality and economic empowerment. By leveraging technology to connect millions of women to essential resources and opportunities, the Federal Government is creating pathways for sustainable development and inclusive growth that will benefit the entire nation for generations to come.
