FinTribe Empowers 5,000 Women in Virtual Investment Training to Bridge Gender Wealth Gap

FinTribe, a women-focused wealth and financial inclusion platform, celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) 2026 with a comprehensive knowledge-sharing session designed to accelerate women's participation in Nigeria's capital markets. The free virtual training, held on Tuesday, was themed 'Bridging the gender wealth gap: How women can build a profitable investment portfolio with mutual funds'. This initiative attracted over 5,000 female participants from diverse financial backgrounds and experience levels, highlighting a growing demand for accessible financial education among women in Nigeria.

Addressing Low Participation in Structured Investments

During the session, FinTribe emphasized the critical need for such training, noting that conversations around women and money are gaining momentum but often fail to translate into actual investing. The company revealed that despite increasing awareness, less than 2.9 per cent of women actively engage in structured investment opportunities, leaving a significant portion of potential wealth untapped. This gap between earning, saving, and investing underscores the urgency of targeted financial literacy programs aimed at empowering women to build sustainable, long-term wealth rather than focusing on short-term gains.

Practical Guidance on Mutual Funds and Portfolio Management

Led by founder Jennifer Awirigwe, the training simplified mutual funds as a practical and accessible entry point into the capital market, particularly for beginners. Participants were introduced to core investment principles, portfolio structuring techniques, and risk management strategies. The session provided step-by-step guidance on how women can transition from informal saving habits to structured, goal-oriented investing, equipping them with the tools to make informed financial decisions and navigate the complexities of the investment landscape.

Aligning with IWD 2026 Theme and Broader Economic Impact

Joy Daniels, head of operations at FinTribe, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the IWD 2026 theme, 'Give to Gain,' reinforcing the idea that equipping women with financial knowledge creates a measurable economic impact. "When over 2,000 women are equipped with the right investment knowledge at once, the ripple effect goes beyond individual growth; it strengthens families, communities, and the broader economy," Daniels said. This perspective underscores the transformative potential of financial education in driving inclusive economic development and reducing gender disparities in wealth accumulation.

Commitment to Expanding Women-Focused Financial Education

Jennifer Awirigwe reiterated FinTribe's commitment to expanding its role in women-focused financial education through initiatives like its Wealth Builders Academy, which has supported thousands of women in moving from passive saving to active investing. Through the IWD initiative, the company has reinforced its dedication to making wealth-building knowledge accessible, practical, and scalable across Nigeria, aiming to foster a culture of financial empowerment and independence among women nationwide.
