Moniepoint Launches Sixth Women in Tech Internship Programme
Digital financial services provider Moniepoint Inc. has officially opened applications for the 2026 edition of its Women in Tech internship programme, marking the initiative's sixth year of operation. This annual effort is designed to expand opportunities for women in Nigeria's burgeoning technology sector, addressing persistent gender imbalances that continue to affect the industry.
Campaign Theme and Objectives
Unveiled under the theme "There Is Space for You," the new campaign directly targets women across Nigeria who possess talent and ambition but often face significant barriers to accessing tech opportunities. The programme aims to create sustainable pathways for women to thrive in technology, fostering inclusion and driving innovation within the ecosystem.
Addressing Gender Imbalance in Tech
The initiative comes against a backdrop of ongoing gender disparity in Nigeria's tech workforce. Despite recent progress, women account for only about 25 per cent of the sector's employees, even though they represent nearly half of the population and approximately 22 per cent of annual STEM graduates. Moniepoint's Women in Tech programme has, over the past five years, focused on bridging this gap by providing access to training and building capacity through hands-on experience.
Expansion of Roles and Opportunities
Building on the success of last year's "Dream 15" cohort, which was the largest intake so far, the 2026 edition will further expand its offerings. The programme will provide more roles across high-demand fields, including:
- Cloud Engineering
- Frontend and Backend Engineering
- Data Engineering
- Systems Administration
- Product Management
- Information Security
- Mobile Engineering
- Site Reliability Engineering
Successful candidates will receive a competitive salary, essential work tools, branded materials, and mentorship from experienced professionals within Moniepoint. High-performing interns may also be offered full-time roles, continuing a pathway that has already shaped the careers of several past participants.
Impact and Success Stories
The programme's impact is reflected in the journeys of former interns who have transitioned into full-time employees, referred to internally as "DreamMakers." Among them are Uzoamaka Anyaegbuna, Adaeze Ugwumba, Iyinoluwa Akenroye, Loveth Abang, and Bisola Abimbola, who now contribute to building products, leading projects, and driving innovation within the company.
Speaking on her experience, Bisola Abimbola described the internship as transformative, noting that she was given real responsibility from the outset. "I can confidently say the internship was one of the best things that has happened in my career. I worked on real projects, took ownership, and delivered results. That hands-on experience strengthened my confidence and prepared me for the level of responsibility I now handle," she said.
Commitment to Inclusion and Innovation
Chinaza Nduka-Dike, Head of People Operations at Moniepoint Inc., reaffirmed the company's commitment to fostering inclusion in the tech ecosystem. "With the Women in Tech programme, we are not just advocating inclusion; we are creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive. Diversity drives innovation, and through this initiative, we are equipping women with the skills and opportunities to take on leadership roles and shape the future of technology," she stated.
She added that the progress recorded across previous cohorts, with alumni making significant contributions both within the company and the wider tech ecosystem, underscores the programme's tangible impact.
Alignment with Global Goals
The 2026 campaign coincides with the close of Women's Month and aligns with Moniepoint's broader commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality. This strategic timing highlights the company's dedication to promoting gender parity in technology and beyond.
