ASHRAE Nigeria Holds Yearly Distinguished Lecture on Sustainable Building Design
ASHRAE Nigeria Yearly Lecture Set for May 19-22, 2026

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Nigeria chapter, in partnership with Mega Clima, has scheduled its annual distinguished lecture to take place from May 19 to 21, 2026, at the Landmark Centre in Oniru-Lekki, Lagos. The grand finale is set for May 22, 2026.

Lecture Theme and Key Speakers

According to ASHRAE Nigeria chapter President, Franklin Olatunji, the lecture will be held under the theme “The Roles of National Codes, Standards and Professional Responsibility in Sustainable Building Design.” He announced that the distinguished lecturer is Dr Samir Traboulsi, founder of the ASHRAE Lebanese chapter and senior lecturer at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. Other guest speakers include Farook Mehboob, 2022-2023 ASHRAE President and Chairman of S. Mehboob & Co Limited, Pakistan; Muhammad Sajid, former ASHRAE Region at Large General Chair; and Olusegun Paul Adetokunbo Ladega, Managing Director at Interstate Architects Limited, Lagos.

ASHRAE's Global Impact

Abayomi Akindele, Chairman of the Planning Committee, stated that “ASHRAE has over 50,000 members in more than 130 countries worldwide. Just like the Nigerian chapter, the society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the engineering industry.” He further noted that ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society dedicated to advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. “Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today,” he added.

Focus on Codes and Standards

Akindele explained that the ASHRAE Nigerian chapter’s 2026 distinguished lecture topic centers on the codes and standards that ensure energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability in buildings.

Expected Attendees

Professionals expected to attend the distinguished lecture include Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) designers, HVAC contractors, HVAC manufacturers, HVAC sales representatives, architects, data centre designers and contractors, as well as managers from hotels, hospitals, healthcare facilities, and oil and gas data centres.
