Cameroon Reaffirms Visa-Free Entry for Citizens of Four African Countries
Cameroon has officially confirmed that citizens of Nigeria, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic remain eligible for visa-free entry into its territory. The announcement, published by Cameroonian authorities, reinforces existing bilateral agreements aimed at facilitating cross-border movement and strengthening regional cooperation among participating African nations.
Visa-Free Arrangement Details
The visa-free policy applies exclusively to nationals of the four listed countries. In addition, holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports issued by countries that have signed visa waiver agreements with Cameroon are also exempt from visa requirements. However, the exemption does not eliminate the need for travelers to carry valid travel documents.
According to Cameroonian authorities, all foreign visitors entering the country must possess a passport or recognized travel document that remains valid for at least six months beyond the date of travel. Accepted documents include standard international passports, recognized laissez-passer, and other special travel documents issued by international organizations acknowledged by the Government of Cameroon.
Visa Fees for Non-Exempt Travelers
For travelers who do not qualify for visa-free entry, Cameroon operates an electronic visa (e-Visa) system. Applicants can complete their visa applications online before traveling. The government has outlined updated visa fees: an ordinary visa valid for up to six months costs 100,000 CFA francs, while an express visa for the same period costs 150,000 CFA francs.
Applicants seeking visas valid for more than six months are required to pay 200,000 CFA francs. Diplomatic and courtesy visas remain free of charge. Cameroon also waives fees for transit visas lasting fewer than five days, whereas transit visas exceeding four days attract the standard visa fee.
Implications for Nigerian Travelers
The latest confirmation means Nigerian citizens can continue traveling to Cameroon without applying for a visa, provided they meet the country's entry requirements and carry valid travel documents. This arrangement is part of broader efforts to enhance intra-African mobility and economic integration.
