In a major stride towards supporting education and sustainable development, Izili Nigeria, in partnership with JCI Ibadan Elite, has equipped Oba Abass Aleshinloye Grammar School in Eleyele, Ibadan, with solar-powered lighting solutions as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Project Launch and Objectives

The initiative was officially launched on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, with the goal of fostering a safer and more conducive learning environment for students by improving access to electricity. As part of the intervention, Izili Nigeria donated and installed several solar energy systems across the school premises, including a Biolite SolarHome 5000+ TV system, five SHS 620+ solar systems, and three solar lanterns.

CEO's Remarks on Empowering the Future

Speaking during the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Izili Nigeria, Mr. Kolawole Oguntuase, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of young Nigerians. He stated, “Providing energy to educational environments is more than just giving light; it is about empowering the future. At Izili Nigeria, we are committed to creating meaningful impact in communities through accessible and sustainable solar energy solutions.”

Oguntuase explained that the initiative aligns with the company’s vision of improving educational outcomes by enhancing students’ reading culture, academic performance, and overall productivity. According to him, access to reliable electricity in schools would encourage students to maximize their potential while fostering leadership development and innovation among young learners. He further revealed that Izili Nigeria currently operates in six African countries and remains dedicated to purpose-driven projects that positively impact communities across the continent.

Support from JCI Ibadan Elite

In her welcome address, the President of JCI Ibadan Elite expressed confidence that the project would greatly benefit the school community. She urged students to remain focused, courageous, and determined in pursuit of their dreams, while emphasizing the importance of proper lighting in promoting safety and effective learning.

Student Reactions and Recognition

The event featured presentations and goodwill messages from students, many of whom expressed appreciation and excitement over the initiative. Some outstanding students were rewarded with certificates and solar lights in recognition of their academic excellence.

Principal's Testimony on Impact

The Principal of the school, Mrs. Adelasoye Funmilade, highlighted the challenges previously faced due to poor electricity supply, particularly within the hostel areas. She noted that inadequate lighting had negatively affected students’ ability to study at night and also posed security concerns within the school environment. “With the new solar lights, our students are now safer and can comfortably read at night,” she said. “This initiative has truly brought smiles to the faces of our students and addressed critical challenges affecting learning and safety.” Funmilade commended Izili Nigeria and JCI Ibadan Elite for the intervention and called on other organizations to emulate such impactful efforts aimed at improving education and community development.

Also speaking, Miss Jonson Folasade praised the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would significantly improve students’ learning experience beyond classroom hours. The project underscores Izili Nigeria’s commitment to expanding access to sustainable energy solutions while empowering communities and advancing education across Africa.
