Kebbi State Government Announces Third Mass Wedding for 300 Couples
The Kebbi State Government has finalized plans to sponsor a mass wedding ceremony for 300 couples, marking the third edition of the initiative. Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, made the announcement on Tuesday, July 14, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.
Beneficiaries Selected from All 21 Local Government Areas
Argungu stated that the beneficiaries were selected from the state’s 21 local government areas and 225 wards following a rigorous screening process. The programme is a collaboration between the state government and the foundation of the governor’s wife, and is open to all eligible indigenes regardless of ethnic or religious background.
Financial Support and Medical Screening
Each groom will receive N250,000 as dowry, in accordance with Islamic law. All intending couples must undergo compulsory medical screening to assess their health status and compatibility. Local government committees have been directed to verify that each groom has a reliable source of income to support his family.
Wedding Ceremony Details
The mass wedding ceremony will take place in Birnin Kebbi, with Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics, and other dignitaries in attendance. The governor’s wife’s NANAS Foundation will provide beds, mattresses, food items, and other household essentials to help the couples begin married life.
Post-Wedding Monitoring
A monitoring committee has been established to track the welfare of the couples after the wedding and ensure proper use of the items provided. This initiative aims to reduce the financial burden of marriage and promote family stability in the state.
