Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been called upon to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Ikowa Opa Road in Kabba, located within the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. The appeal was made by a native of the state and member of the Kabba community, Laraiyeytan Dare Sunday, in a letter delivered to the governor in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Urgent Need for Road Repairs
In his letter, Dare emphasized the dire state of the road, describing it as terribly deplorable and nearly impassable for vehicles, especially with the onset of the rainy season. He highlighted the daily hardships faced by residents, students, farmers, transporters, and other road users due to the poor condition of the road.
Impact on Local Economy and Security
The population in the area has been steadily increasing following the establishment of Kogi State University, Kabba, by former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello. However, the road's poor state is negatively affecting social and economic activities. Farmers struggle to transport their produce to markets, transporters are reluctant to carry passengers and students, and herders exploit the bad road network to encroach on farmlands, leading to serious security challenges.
Dare pleaded on behalf of the densely populated axis, urging the governor to intervene and fix the road. He expressed that timely action would bring relief to the people and ensure the governor's good deeds are remembered in their hearts and prayers.
