Yobe Governor Buni Slashes Tractor Hiring Fees by 50% for Farmers
Yobe Governor Cuts Tractor Hiring Fees by 50% for Farmers

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved a 50 percent reduction in the Tractor Hiring Services (TRHS) rate for small-scale farmers across all 178 communities in the state. The fee has been slashed from N100,000 to N50,000, according to an announcement by the acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, on Monday in Damaturu.

Strategic Intervention for Farmers

Dr Goje described the 50 percent subsidy as a strategic intervention aimed at easing the burden on farmers, increasing access to mechanized farming, and improving agricultural productivity across the state. He noted that the reduction would enable more farmers to cultivate larger portions of arable land, increase production, and maximize their yields during the current farming season.

“The 50 percent reduction in tractor hiring fees will enable more farmers to cultivate larger portions of land, increase production, and maximise yields during the current farming season,” said Dr Goje.

Boosting Food Security and Economic Wellbeing

The acting SSG added that the intervention is expected to significantly reduce the cost of cultivation, boost food security, and improve the economic wellbeing of farming communities throughout Yobe State. He emphasized that Governor Buni’s administration has placed agriculture at the forefront of its development agenda through sustained investments in tractors, agricultural machinery, improved seeds, fertilisers, irrigation support, and other farmer-friendly programmes.

“Making tractor services more affordable would encourage greater participation in farming activities, enhance productivity, and support the state’s drive towards agricultural self-sufficiency,” Dr Goje explained.

Commitment to Agricultural Development

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Buni administration to implement policies and programmes that promote agricultural development, create jobs for youths, improve livelihoods, and ensure sustainable economic growth for the people of Yobe State. The 50 percent reduction in tractor hire fees is widely seen as another bold step by Governor Buni towards supporting farmers, increasing food production, and building a more prosperous and food-secure Yobe State.
