Judith Mazariegos was six months pregnant at the time of the crash, as stated by a rescuer on Guatemalan television. The couple died alongside two other individuals: a footballer and a doctor, whose identities have not been fully disclosed.

The crash took place in a mountainous area within the municipality of Esquipulas Palo Gordo on Sunday evening. Upon receiving an alert, personnel from the Municipal Departmental Firefighters of the San Pedro Sacatepéquez station in San Marcos were immediately dispatched to the scene. Rescuers from units RD-30 and AD-122 arrived shortly after to assist.
At the crash site, responders located the partially destroyed Cessna 182P Skylane aircraft and discovered three deceased passengers. They managed to extract a fourth occupant alive, who was stabilized and transported to the San Marcos Regional Hospital. However, according to Guatemalan news outlet Soy502, this individual later succumbed to injuries in the emergency room of the National Hospital of San Marcos.
A firefighter's statement detailed the grim findings: "At the scene, three deceased individuals were found: two adult males and a pregnant woman. A male with multiple injuries was stabilized and transported to the San Marcos Regional Hospital."

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics has dispatched personnel from the Accident Investigation Unit to the site to collect evidence and determine the cause of the crash.
