Chevron, NCDMB, Bristow Launch Cadet Pilot Training

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Bristow Helicopters, has officially launched a helicopter pilot development programme aimed at training 10 Nigerian cadet pilots along with two trainees from CNL's neighbouring communities. This initiative is designed to enhance local capacity within Nigeria's oil and gas aviation sector.

First-of-its-Kind Programme

Speaking on behalf of Chevron, the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer for Chevron Nigeria and Mid-Africa Region, Olusoga Oduselu, stated that the programme represents a pioneering effort in the industry. He emphasized that it reflects Chevron's dedication to building critical local capabilities for the oil and gas sector.

The programme, facilitated by Bristow Helicopters, encompasses both technical and non-technical training components. These are structured to prepare participants for helicopter operations that support offshore energy activities. The non-technical phase commenced on June 15, 2026, in partnership with Blueshell Energy Training Services, while the technical phase is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Alignment with National Goals

The NCDMB has expressed that this initiative aligns with its objective of developing globally competitive Nigerian professionals and strengthening the country's local content capacity. The regulator further noted that the programme positions Nigeria as a net exporter of local content. NCDMB officials encouraged the trainees to maintain a strong safety culture and fully embrace the opportunity.

Bristow Helicopters underscored the importance of safety, discipline, and operational precision in preparing pilots for offshore aviation roles. The launch activities concluded with participating trainees signing a code of conduct, reaffirming their commitment to discipline, professionalism, and integrity throughout the training.
